Weekend Champloo, June 22-24

by on June 21st, 2012

Did you survive that heat wave? I did…but barely. Luckily, I work in the delightfully air-conditioned library, so at least my afternoons were spent in the cool computer lab in Teen Tech Zone (which is everyday except Sundays and Tuesdays from 1-4 PM). So what’s going on in the community this weekend? Honestly…not a whole lot. I’m waiting for the festivals in July. So instead of stuff to do this weekend, I’ll give you some rainy day activities. Because…well, we sure need the rain, don’t we? So here’s hoping:

  • Check out these incredible paper sculptures and make your own:

I wish I could do that. The hours and hours they took to create…patiently gluing and folding…yikes. So here’s a sweet YouTube channel with some much *ahem* simpler origami to try.

  • Have a marathon of all the Marvel movies (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk…I think that’s all of them…) and then head over to the theater and catch a matinee of “The Avengers.” Because if you haven’t seen it, you really need to. Seriously. Go.

  • Pick up a book. WHAT. I know it’s crazy. You’re on a library blog, and I’m advocating reading. Weird.
  • Put on some old clothes, take out your bike, and go puddle splashing on your bike. This is an especially great activity for hot days.
  • Check out some cool websites. Like this one (more for girls…but guys too!). And this one. Or this one.

Enough for now? Sure. Stay cool and keep reading! 🙂

P.S. I almost forgot! The Free Movie Series on the Pentacrest is showing Men in Black on Saturday, so get there at sundown (anywhere between 8:20-9:00).
