Weekend Champloo, June 29 – July 1

by on June 28th, 2012

I hope the weatherman is wrong: it’s supposed to be SUPER hot this weekend, as I’m sure you know. So whatever you do this weekend, be sure to keep cool and drink lots of water.

Here are a couple of air-conditioned events going on this weekend:

Anne Greenwood Brown Book Reading: Saturday, June 30, 2:00 PM, Prairie Lights Books, Upstairs. Anne Greenwood Brown, author of Lies Beneath, will be at Prairie Lights this Saturday.

“Lies Beneath, the perfect summer read for teen fans of the Twilight series, features Calder White who lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids seeking revenge for their mother’s death.

Author Anne Greenwood Brown grew up sailing the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior, leaning over the rail and wondering, with a lake that big, that ancient, what amazing thing might flash by.  Her imagination is loosed in this seductive tale.  For more information about the author, visit annegreenwoodbrown.com. Also of interest, Anne is the great-niece of Iowa City’s Sandy and Susan Boyd.”

Go see “Brave” at a very cold theater. Which is to say, any theater. I saw the new Pixar movie, “Brave,” just yesterday, and although it’s not my favorite Pixar movie ever (that’s a tie between “The Incredibles” and “Up”), it’s still pretty darn awesome. The trio of little brothers are a constant source of entertainment, and the animation is super pretty.

Museums, and, you know, libraries, are great places to escape. And stop by Teen Tech Zone Saturday from 1-4 PM to beat the heat!
