At the Iowa City Public Library, 396 adults and 168 teens registered for this year’s Summer Reading Program: Own the Night. Throughout the summer, the Library hosted bands, zombies, owls, raptors, bats and movies (and a few movies about Batman).

Among adults, “Fifty Shades of Grey” and “The Hunger Games” were most read, and teens continue to read “Harry Potter” and “The Hunger Games” with enthusiasm. And now, as the summer draws to a close and we open textbooks at desks more often than “Harry Potter” under blankets, we have some congratulations and thanks to extend.

Congratulations to the winners of the prize drawings! Grace Tully and Claire Rutherford took home Nooks from the adult and teen grand prize drawings, and Chad Rechkemmer received a Kindle Fire from the Pepperwood Plaza grand prize drawing. Our runners-up in the adult Summer Reading Program drawing, Debb Green and Margo Cox, received gift certificates to Prairie Lights, while the teen runners-up won gift certificates to Marcus Theaters (to Hurie Bah), Prairie Lights (to Emma Kaboli), and iTunes (to Anh To). Congratulations, all!

Finally, a tremendous thank you to the ICPL Friends Foundation for their generous funding of the Teen Summer Reading Program. And thank you to all participants! We hope you’ve had a great summer reading with us!
