We hope you had fun trying your hand at penning a succinct tale for our Two-Sentence Story Contest! And maybe now you’re craving MOAR. But the breathtakingly epic scope of your inspiration defies the bounds of the word count restrictions that flash fiction, short stories, and even novellas tremblingly offer.

H’oh, no, you can feel it, uncoiling in your belly like a preternatural parasite or a particularly insistent bowel movement: you have a novel in you. Perhaps even the Next Great American Novel. Pfft, nay – THE NEXT GREAT GALACTIC NOVEL.

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a yearly event that challenges writers around the world to pound out the first draft of a novel  in thirty days. These drafts don’t have to be perfect, or even pretty — they just have to be written. So throughout November, we here at the Iowa City Public Library will be hosting a series of events to facilitate this glorious month-long wordvomit extravaganza.
