A schedule of special events intended to introduce the Bookmobile to our community during the month of May is available on the Library’s calendar at this link.

More information about the Bookmo2017-04-bookmobile-stopsbile, including the Summer Schedule that begins on June 1, 2017, is available at This includes a Google Map (image at left) of all the places the Bookmobile will visit in our community during the Summer schedule. As you can see, the Bookmobile will be in all parts of town. If you live in Iowa City or University Heights, we’ll be at a stop near you!

You may have noticed that materials on the Bookmobile are now showing in the Library’s Catalog. These items are not holdable but we will begin circulating materials from the Bookmobile at the special events scheduled in May. Fingers crossed we’ll get all the technology and logistics worked out before our first event on Tuesday May 2 at City Hall from 4-6 PM. We are thankful for a month of special events so we can all pr2017-04-bookmobile-inspect-bottomactice before the official schedule begins on June 1!

When the Bookmobile rolled into town we spent a good part of the first day inspecting it and learning about all the technology available on the Bookmobile. W2017-04-bookmobile-inspect-tope literally inspected it from top to bottom. We’re also learning how all of the components work, including how the solar panels on the roof recharge the batteries, how the HVAC system works, the WIFI system, how the lift works and many other components. We loaded the Bookmobile with Library materials on Monday April 24th and we really appreciated help from the lift to get all the heavy carts of materials loaded!

2017-04-bookmobile-learning-to-driveWe are also in the process of training our staff who will drive the Bookmobile. You may see the Bookmobile out and about town while we are practicing. If you see us, give us a wave 🙂

We are so excited to bring Bookmobile services to our community and look forward to meeting you in your neighborhood! If you have questions, please call the Library at 319-356-5200 or navigate to
