Is the Library open during Ped Mall Construction?

by on April 30th, 2018

YES YES YES YES. The Library is absolutely open during Ped Mall Construction.

2018 Construction begins today as a a part of Phase 1. In the map to the right, Phase 1 is shown in brown. Phase 1 includes the Dubuque Street portion of the Ped Mall away from the Library.

Construction near the Library is a part of Phase 2, which begins in May of 2019. Phase 2 is shown on the map in green. Next summer, when there is construction near the Library, we do not anticipate any closures of the Library.

There are a number of ways you can keep informed about Ped Mall construction:

  1. Sign up at the City’s Alerts at https://www.icgov.org/e-subscriptions – the alert is called Ped Mall Improvements Project” in the “Construction and Housing” section.
  2. Follow the hashtag #pedproject on Facebook and Twitter.
  3. Check out the City’s Ped Mall Construction Project webpage that has the most current information.
  4. Look at the April 2018 PowerPoint from the Public Open House to see maps, phasing, and renderings of what some of the improvements will look like.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed for good weather and smooth sailing with this project. We all have experience from the Washington Street phase last summer, so that gives us an idea of what to expect for the Summers of 2018 and 2019.
