Winter crafting inspired by the Bookmobile

by Shawna Riggins on December 14th, 2017

When the weather starts to cool, I brush off my crafting supplies and I know it’s time to get started on hand made gifts. I love to make crafts but some years I am stumped about what to make when it comes time to get started. This year, my crafting choice was made easy when the Feminist Icon Cross Stitch book caught my eye during some down time on the Bookmobile. I made two of the patterns for women in my life and I hope to make one for myself next! A new cross stitch book, Really Cross Stitch just arrived on the Bookmobile yesterday, so now I have even more patterns I am itching to make.

We like to boast that the Bookmobile is filled with the newest and most popular items. To keep that distinction, we are continually adding new books to the collections on the Bookmobile. Recently our Non Fiction section has been expanding with several new crafting books and cook books. I Will Not Eat You

by Casey Maynard on November 9th, 2016

From the author of Warning: Do Not Open this Book, Please, Open this Book, and Chicken in Space comes a brand new adventure! I Will Not Eat You by Adam Lehrhaupt, illustrated by Scott Magoon, is a delight and perfect for this late-onset autumn. It has everything you could possibly want as the days get shorter: mystery, suspense, chase scenes and happy endings (maybe?).
The dark color palette hints at the story’s capacity for equally colored humor and continually builds suspense concerning who our not-so-hungry protagonist might be. It is only when the stakes are highest that the true identity of the creature in the cave is revealed.  For more fun hints as to the identity of this stranger, check out the book trailer below, or better yet, the book!

As a cataloger, I see a lot of interesting, brand-new books every day. Sometimes the covers and titles are just so interesting I have to take a peek inside. Since it’s National Poetry Month, I’ll share some of the most recent poetry books that caught my eye.

Catch Your breath: Writing Poignant Poetry by Laura Purdie Salas is a great new book full of ideas and inspiration to write your own poetry. It’s full of examples of different types of poems, as well as good writing habits and profiles of famous poets.

Storytime Recap: New Books!

by Morgan Reeves on August 26th, 2015

It may be a new season of storytime, but we started out with our old standard song, “Clap Everybody and Say Hello.” We had a lot of new faces today, but everyone caught on to the song quickly. I chose to read only books from our new shelves today, which was a great reminder that while repetition is a great way for kids to learn, they also need to keep hearing new words and concepts to keep expanding their vocabularies.
